ALL THE GOLF NEWS THAT'S FIT TO PRINT...AND A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT THAT'S NOT

Welcome to The Hosel Rocket, a quasi-definitive and largely unauthorized source of golf information. Any resemblance of the content found on this site to actual journalism, however unlikely, should be considered purely accidental.

Over The Hills (and Far Away)

The editorial staff of The Hosel Rocket is proud to introduce a new feature of this publication, Over The Hills (and Far Away). With apologies to Led Zeppelin, Over The Hills will profile the travels and golfing exploits of our members as they take themselves and their games far beyond the confines of LCCC.

If you're planning a golf trip, remember to pack that digital camera, send a few picture postcards from your chosen destination, and your travels will be memorialized forthwith in this space. Also, if you've recently returned from a trip and have a few pictures and anecdotes to share, please send them along and they will find their way into in this space.

Happy trails one and all!

Over The Hills (and Far Away) - Bugtussle, TN

Congratulations to our very own Jim Self, who recently journeyed back to his native Tennessee to compete in the 92nd annual Bugtussle CC Varmint Shootout.

A prestigious event on the BRASS (Blue Ridge-Appalachians-Smokey Mountain) Tour, "The Varmint" is contested using a variation of the popular Stableford Modified Scoring System. In addition to accumulating points for score against par (i.e., bogey: -1 point; par: + 1; birdie: + 3; eagle: + 7), the members of each team also receive points for the type and number of indigenous game species bagged during the course of each round (i.e., hound dog: -1; chipmunk: +3; squirrel: +5; possum: +7).

Thanks to Jim's legendary short game and the keen marksmanship of Jed "Skunk Turd" McCoy (pictured above, top left, at the post-tournament BBQ and moonshine tasting), Team Self captured the 2009 Shootout, achieving their quota in both points and varmints.

Congratulations, Jim!

Seasons Greetings

"Christmas at my house is always at least six or seven times more pleasant than anywhere else. We start drinking early. And while everyone else is seeing only one Santa Claus, we'll be seeing six or seven."
~W.C. Fields

"What?! The course is closed on Christmas?! What about the range? Will the range be open?"
~ G. Hollander

"Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas."
~ Calvin Coolidge

Guys, best wishes to each of you and your families for a safe and happy holiday, wherever you may be. Merry Christmas!

~ Scott

Welcome

Welcome, friends, to the first salvo of The Hosel Rocket, a quasi-daily, pseudo-informational, and highly unauthorized publication serving the golfing cognescenti of Las Colinas Country Club.

How It Works
When you plan on playing, please indicate your game(s) of choice for that weekend (sorry, Dray. Golf only - no Gin) by clicking on the voting button(s) to the right. The click on the small envelope option, register your email address, and send me a quick "I'm in" message with the day(s) and times you plan to play so I will have your name for the tee sheet. Comments can also be added if and when the spirit moves you.

As per our current protocol, your requests should be logged to the site by 5:00 PM CST each Tuesday for the following weekend's play. When all Saturday & Sunday times have been confirmed with the Golf Shop, they'll be posted to the site by Friday morning, along with that weekend's pairings.

Links to The Links
As you'll also see to the right, I've established a partial list of golf-related links for the group. If there is a web site that you find particularly useful and entertaining (sorry, Tim. Golf only), then send the link my way and I'm glad to add it to the list.

To Subscribe
Now, let me turn things over to our subscriptions department. If you click the Posts link under SUBSCRIBE, you can create a hyperlink on your internet explorer tool bar that will allow you to go right to The Rocket with but one click of the mouse.

Use the link to communicate your weekly requests for play, keep up on current events at LCCC, or pass along content that you'd like me to share with the group, and I'll copy/paste/post ASAP.

Weather or Not
If you're not sure if the weather is fit for a game of golf or cards, check the link at the bottom of the page before you head out to LCCC for our local weather forecast, updated continuously by the good folks at www.weather.com.

Finally, feedback will not only be tolerated, but encouraged, so please send along any thoughts you might have that could make this site more valuable, informative, and entertaining for all of us.

Thanks!

- The Editor
